flower crown woven through her hair

part of a series “children, that’s what we’ll always be.”

This piece holds the spirit of a little girl—wild and free—spending her summers at her grandmother’s cabin in the mountains, surrounded by open fields and rolling hills of wildflowers.

Days unfolded barefoot and sun-kissed, her hips swaying to the music of the wind. Touched by nature and guided by her grandmother’s loving hands, she was silently blessed as flowers were woven through her hair.

Each bloom was a guardian. Each stem, a thread in the tapestry of belonging. To run barefoot across this land was to complete an ancient rite, where the child became one with the earth. Her footsteps became the pulse of the soil. Her breath, a prayer stitched into the sky. She was not separate. She was home.

In Slavic tradition, women wove flower crowns for their children as a quiet ritual. It was never just play—it was a way of saying: You are protected. You are loved. You belong to the Earth.

Placed gently upon the head, the flower crown connects the crown chakra to the soil beneath—grounding the child in both spirit and land.

My grandmother’s hands, weaving that crown, were offering something sacred to the Earth itself—her love, her blessing, her knowing.

The painting is soft and textured, echoing the feeling of something remembered—faded, but never forgotten. Subtle marks hint at movement, nature, and presence. Beneath it all—within the texture, the petals, and the gentle dashes around the edge—a hidden letter hums softly from the canvas:

As I wrote it, I smelled my grandmother’s perfume. I felt her beside me. The veil was thin. The love was thick.

This piece is a conduit—a bridge to what still lingers. It reminds us that the ones who held us are never far.

You are woven into the land’s memory.

You are wild.

You are home
